"Why is this hospital even there?"

About: Purley War Memorial Hospital

Made 2 phone calls before arriving (to CUH) who assured me someone would see my daughter at Purley. Upon arrival there was only 1 person in the waiting room (1 person!!!!!!!!!!!!). I told the woman on reception that I would like someone to look at my daughters ear. She told me "don't waste your time here, we don't do that sort of thing here, got to Croydon minor injuries. She didn't ask one question. My daughter could have had a knife hanging out of her ear (as it was, it was bleeding). Not one question, just sent packing. Got to Croydon, couldn't even get in the door, I asked the security guard how long it may take to be seen (only had enough money for one hour parking) - he rudely pointed out "at least 2.5 hours, can't you see how busy it is". Pretty ridiculous all round service wouldn't you say?

Dear Shazza Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and I am sorry to learn of the difficulties you encountered in getting treatment for your daughter. The Minor Injuries Unit at Purley War Memorial Hospital is operated by AT Medics, a GP-led company, who can be contacted direct through www.atmedics.org.uk . I have passed on your concerns to that organisation. Urgent care and emergency services at Croydon University Hospital are amongst the busiest in London. We see more than 340 people a day on average, with over 100 ambulance arrivals – a 40 per cent rise in a decade. We do try to see all people who come to us as quickly as possible, but when we are busy there can sometimes be a substantial wait to be seen. Over the last year we consistently met the national standard to treat 95% of patients within 4 hours – even through our busiest winter. The Urgent Care Centre situated on the Croydon University Hospital site is administered by Virgin Care, not by Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. We have passed on your comments to VirginCare. The organisation responsible for deciding who provides healthcare services in this area is the Croydon Clinical Commissioning Group and their details may be found at www.croydonccg.nhs.uk, where you can also leave your feedback.
