My father was admitted in December as he had had a fall at home. The paramedics wanted to check him over. the problem is my parents live closer to Solihull and they don't have a car for my mother to drive over.
Mum phoned on the Monday and was told they were concerned about his mobility. Tuesday he had a fall in hospital and for the next few days they kept him in to check is mobility. eventually it was decided another xray was needed. This showed a facture ( we think, doctor has confirmed this fully but a charge nurse told me on the sunday when we went to see him). He had a scan on the monday.
My mother has been given various pieces of information such as he will need 6 weeks bed rest. When we went to see dad on 27th he thought he was coming home. I went hunting for a nurse only to be told that this week would be physio.
As we have not been told what is happening he has no entertainment he just lies there. He is confused because there is some dementia but no one is really considering this. We are looking into things he could use but it all takes time to get things to him and he will find it difficult to operate them.
My mother received a call the other day asking whether she could come in to see him. She had called to say that she wouldn't be in on Friday when it snowed but no one had told dad or he didn't remember.
It costs £40 each time mum gets a taxi to the hospital so to call her was at least insensitive. She has a heart condition and it is difficult for her to walk up to the ward.
I am finding the attitude in the hospital difficult to deal with. The accident which keeps him in this place happened on your watch yet no one seems in the slightest bit worried that there could be a legal claim.
All I want at present it to find out what is happening and make life as easy as possible for two people who have been together for 55years.
I'm really not impressed at present
