"Severe dehydration and infection - Felsted Ward"

About: Broomfield Hospital

Attended A & E with severe dehydration on 24th November which was complicated by an infection and admitted to Felsted ward. Received no treatment for the infection until after a case conference on Friday 28th November. Extremely uncomfortable and suffering with a dry mouth. Not given any oral fluids, not given any nutrition, not given normal medication either. Told that a Do Not Resuscitate Notice had been issued even though it was never discussed with me, my next of kin or my legal attorney. Told that there is no legal requirement to discuss a Do Not Resuscitate Notice with the patient or carer - it's only best practice. Told that I had been refusing food and drink before my admission which was not true. This false information put in my notes and not removed even though it is pointed out that this is not true. No one can say where this information has come from. Doctors said my drip should be removed and I should be 'allowed' to die even though three days before my admission I was walking with my walking frame on the veranda looking at the garden.
