"Clinic 4."

About: Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus)

I have attended clinic 4 on four occasions, by appointment and after referral by my local hospital eye clinic. I have been seen there by two consultants, three doctors and various support staff. On arrival at the clinic I booked in at reception and was then, almost immediately, taken by a health care assistant for preliminary tests, eyesight, blood pressure and the like. A nurse then tested my eye pressures and blood sugar and also checked all of my medications. After returning to the waiting area for a short period, a doctor called my name and introduced herself to me. She carried out a very thorough examination lasting about half an hour and then went to report to the consultant. He arrived after about ten minutes, introduced himself to me and examined me himself. He then arranged for further tests in other departments that day and prescribed some new medication. He explained that I would need a biopsy on another day to help diagnose my condition and explained what would happen during that procedure. He gave me a preliminary diagnosis but said that this had to be confirmed after further examinations and tests. Moorfields Hospital is a large establishment and rather daunting to navigate at first but every department is clearly signposted and I soon found my way to the Pharmacy, the Preoperative Assessment Unit for ECG, blood tests and a medical examination and to an eye photography department. I left about four hours after arrival. On my second visit I had the biopsy in an operating theatre after a quick visit to clinic 4 again. Everything went like clockwork and I left three hours after arrival. Medication prescribed at the clinic was delivered to the recovery area by a pharmacist who gave me a thorough briefing on side effects and the like. Visits three and four have been very similar, my treatment is continuing and my condition is improving. I have to travel for about three hours to get to Moorfields and reception have seemingly taken this into account when scheduling my appointments, I'm grateful for that consideration. Every member of staff I have met at Moorfields from healthcare assistants to consultants have treated me with both consideration and respect, all were uniformly polite and helpful. This hospital is, without doubt, a centre of excellence. I feel very fortunate to have been treated there.
