"What happened to patient centred care"

About: University Hospital Monklands

(as a relative),

I felt that the majority of staff on the ward were not focused on the care of the patient but rather getting the job done as quickly as possible. Nurses were always having conversations with each other i feel rather than taking into consideration the vulnerable patient they were caring for. My father was only admitted there for a week and in that time I witnessed that the idea of person centered care has vanished.. Now everything is all about the paperwork and I don't think that's right.

Dear Paitient6161

Thank you for taking the time to post your Patient Opinion, I am very disappointed and saddened to hear of both you and your father's experience within Monklands Hospital.

I can assure you at Monklands we work very hard to ensure patients receive safe and effective care and they are involved in decisions regarding their care.

Learning from patient experience is very important and I would welcome the opportunity to discuss in person your experience and would appreciate you contacting me on 01236 713065.

Kind regards

Ruth

Dear Patient6161,

I am sorry that your father has been unwell and needed to stay in hospital.I am sure this must have been a worrying time. I hope that he is on the road to recovery.

I am also very disappointed that your father and your yourself did not experience person centred care. Monklands Hospital Chief of Nursing Ruth Thompson, actually held an event just over a week ago with key staff to discuss this very issue and how we can improve.

It would be most helpful if you could contact Ruth's office at Monklands and share further your experience - we are very keen to learn from people like yourself on how we can improve.

As the Lead for Person Centred Care for Lanarkshire I work closely with Ruth and others and we try and share good/poor feedback to try and improve practice on an on-going basis.

If you would be kind enough to phone: 01236-713065, a member of the patient affairs team will pick up the issues you raise to allow Ruth to review further and come back to you.

Kindest regards
