"The Flintstones Should be employed to run the..."

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

My doctor requested an Urgent appointment to see a consultant. He faxed a letter and I queried it 3 days later. It takes 5 days to take a fax and put it on the system!!! That is before it even gets looked at. 5 days to take a fax (people still use these, not sent one for 10 years!) onto a computer system. Then they can start to make an appointment. This highlights how backward, inefficient and wasteful the NHS can be. The medical care may be good however it is being let down by this dire level of organisation. Fixing this problem is not difficult or expensive it requires some forethought and a mild amount of organisational ability. How much are they paying the people responsible for this disgrace? I had the option of going private and got an appointment with a senior consultant within 24 Hours. My MRI scan will hopefully be done before I would have even got an appointment here. Maybe they are moving from stone tablets to quil pen and ink! The NHS problems appear to be a lot about poor management, throwing more money is not the answer, getting the right people to run things is the way to start.
