"Decent clinical care but terribly disorganised"

About: Harrogate District Hospital

Went into A and E after sudden eye pain robbing me of vision in one eye at work. Doctor that treated me was brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I cannot praise her enough. However, the nursing staff managed to 'lose' me because they forgot where they had put me and then neglected to tell the doctor. This resulted in them making a phone call home to my husband telling him I was missing from the department and had 'wandered off without telling anyone" when they had actually asked me to sit in a waiting room so they could use the cubicle for someone else. When my worried husband called back to ask if they had located me they again misadvised him that I had wandered off without telling anyone. After getting home I phoned up to ask them.about this and heard the staff nurse on the phone telling the doctor she had someone ' ranting on' on the phone! Their excuse was that it was busy. My opinion - even more vital not to lose patients then. As I said, the doctor was amazing but if you visit this department keep reminding them you are there as their organisation and communications leave a whole lot to be desired and this could obviously impact clinical care very badly if left unchecked. If the doctor had not found me by chance I have no doubt I would still be sitting there now!
