"Consistent failure by Cheshire & Wirral Partnership Trust"

About: Cheshire And Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Child and adolescent mental health

(as a carer),

I am writing about by daughter’s mental health problems and her care with the Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Trust. I found there was a consistent failure to respond and help her as the crisis developed despite repeated emergency appeals. There was a failure to understand the crisis when my daughter became a rushing door patient (1 day in hospital, 1 day out in a repeated sequence). The psychiatrist made all the decisions; he hadn’t met my daughter before and I felt he paid no attention whatsoever to my comments, hers or her friends. I feel there was a failure of duty of care. She absconded from their poor treatment (in the psychiatric ward at later stage) three times, seeking help for herself. She was given an overdose of drugs and ended up in A&E and I had to watch her heart and respiration fail. At this stage I concluded what had happened (they didn’t tell me). Based on my experience, I feel that the psychiatrists here do not believe in or work with families and no one questions or challenges their news! I feel that a challenging carer is alone- but (s)he is fighting for the patients right to life.

Cheshire and Wirral Partnership would like to thank this carer for the posting. We are not yet in a position to provide a full response as we are currently engaged in a robust and rigorous investigation into the issues raised in this posting. We hope the investigation will address these concerns and will identify valuable learning for the Trust to improve the services we offer.
