"Advice regarding a leg ulcer which had just appeared"

About: Harmoni / NHS 111

(as the patient),

I had previously had a leg ulcer 6 months ago which was treated by the nurse at my local surgery. As this was on the same leg but a different area and it was a Saturday, I went to my local pharmacist to try to obtain the appropriate dressing but i was told that they were unable to help and I should dial 111. When I spoke to someone on 111, I was asked a number of questions (including whether I had the symptoms of embola) and eventually told to ring Wilson Hospital and get an appointment there! When I rang I was informed that they could not apply dressings unless they were prescribed by my doctor and brought with me. Also that they closed at 8pm and could not apply dressings after 4pm but they would look at my leg. My husband drove me to Wilson Hospital at 2pm and we were told that the wait would be approx 2 hours and in any case they would not be able to treat me. At that stage I gave up and had to wait until the Monday when I obtained a doctor's appointment by getting to my surgery at 7. 30am. which is the only way to get seen. I eventually saw the nurse at 6. 30pm that evening!
