"Waiting times horrific!!"

About: University Hospital Lewisham

all the staff are helpful and know wat they're doing except in one area, and that is the length of time one has to wait to see the Specialist. It is absolutely horrendous and I have been completely by to this hospital more that three times a year for the lady 25 years due to chronic illness and nothing has changed except that it has got worse. I am sitting here now as I write at 12:00 but have been here since 9:40 when I just finished getting a blood test for this appt. My appointment was booked for 10:30!! I realise that I may have to wait a little longer because of the bloods. But this also happens when I don't have any blood tests done!! 80% of the cover stations going on around me are about how long that person has had to wait!!

Haematology medical staff, in University Hospital Lewisham, are very aware of their prolonged clinic waiting times, which are due to an increasing mismatch between capacity and demand. We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing and we are trying to address the problem by having more staff in clinics, increasing the interval between visits as much as safety allows and discharging patients to their GP's early whenever possible. In the meantime, patients can help by ensuring they do not arrive early for their appointments and by having their blood test ahead of the appointment day, if possible. The Haematology team hope that their patients will experience an improvement in waiting times over the next few months. Thank you for taking the time to feedback your experience. Tullie Yeghen, Consultant Haematologist
