There was a delay in receiving this procedure for several months due to a backlog of patients - I managed to overcome this with help from the PALS team who were in contact with the senior radiology team, who have said they are putting on extra lists at Wexham to cope with the demand. I have had this procedure previously undertaken with only minimal lignocaine - it was very painful and made me feel quite ill. This time I specifically asked the radiologist who did it if he could do two things: 1. Tell me at all times what he was doing before he did it 2. Inject lignocaine right through the first part of the procedure which made it much more bearable. He also re scanned once the needle was in place and could see he was in exactly the right spot which was encouraging to hear Thank you to the Director of Radiology at Wexham - it makes such a difference to be able to participate in these procedures and be listened to - as a patient you understand what is happening better and feel you have some control over the process - particularly if you need them several times over the years and especially where spinal needles are involved! As this procedure has only been effective for a short period of time in the past I am hoping this will work better this time round.
