"shocking treatment"

About: West Park Hospital

I was admitted voluntarily into maple ward, staff were blunt and harsh with patients, I was given medication and politely asked what medication I was given , staff replied with "a blue and a green" and "if you don't take it your getting injected". No one wants to speak up and say anything against nurses, in fear of being sectioned. They have ultimate control, if they don't like you they can make your lives hell. I was promised therapy two months before going into hospital and it's been two months since I was discharged and I still haven't had any therapy, no support and a care coordinator that does not show up to our sessions weekly without answering the phone or an excuse to not showing up. If this is what the nhs can do for people with mental illness's it is not good enough.

We are concerned to read about the experience you have described and the ongoing lack of support you are feeling regarding Maple ward, an adult acute admissions ward. I notice you refer to eating disorders service in your heading which is provided by Birch Ward, our specialist eating disorder inpatient unit. Please can we assure you that your comments about Maple ward have been taken seriously and shared with senior management. The Locality Manager - Adult Mental Health and Substance Misuse or the Head of Adult Mental Health and Substance Misuse, Durham and Darlington have advised they would appreciate opportunity to investigate and respond to the issues you have raised and ensure that you are receiving the appropriate level of support. If you contact PALS on freephone 0800 052 0219 or email tewv.pals@nhs.net they can arrange this
