"Really Impressed"

About: St Thomas' Hospital (London)

I went to St Thomas' at around 1.45pm on a Friday afternoon, and I was expecting the Urgent Care Clinic to be heaving to the degree that I would have to argue my way to being seen that day. When I turned up at the clinic I was quickly and kindly directed to head towards the A&E department to register. This I did. At the A&E department there was a man at a desk whom I immeditaley saw and described my condition to. He asked me if I had seen a GP, to which I replied 'no'. Initially thinking that this was a bad move on my part, and that he was going to turn me away, I was suprised to hear him tell me to go and speak to a man at another desk who would be able to arrange an appointment for me with a local GP that afternoon. Feeling slightly perplexed at my good luck, I went to the other man who immediately took down my details and booked me in for an appointment at 2.30pm at the Waterloo Health Centre (a five minute walk away). He was chatty and friendly and comforted me. But he also gave truely excellent directions! After finding the clinic, and arriving early like I was advised, they saw me just after 2pm (a whole 30 minutes before I was expecting to be seen). I was out of the GP by 2.10pm after experiencing a really efficient service there too. The whole process took me less than half an hour, and was exemplary. I was so impressed with firstly the friendliness and helpfulness of everybody I spoke to, but also by the efficiency of the service offered at the A&E department to refer me so quickly to the local GP. I know that at other times, I may have not been so lucky with the timings, but this is the first that I have heard of the A&E referring and booking the patient in at the local GP. I think the service should be commended. Unfortunately I cannot remember any names, but thank you to everybody that helped!

I am glad to hear that everything ran so smoothly when you visited St Thomas’ A&E department. Thank you for taking the time to share this positive experience - the A&E department were encouraged to receive it.
