"Pointless hospital !"

Given that this area has a high proportion of older and therefore more likely infirm or disabled residents it seems rather pointless to have a 'community' Hospital out of town that is not on a bus route (and hasn't been for about a year, despite the assertion of this site), meaning that many residents are unable to receive minor treatment or even a simple blood test ! On a personal note I am Diabetic and am unable to receive basic screening, something that I've been complaining about since June 2011 without receiving any answers or help what so ever.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your visit to our diabetic service at Johnson Community Hospital. We are sorry to hear about your poor experience of our service. The issue of public transport to and from the hospital has been discussed with the council, but is not something we can influence directly. Alternative means of transport are advertised in the outpatients department and if you call our PALS patient liaison service on 0845 6024384 they will be happy to send you further details of the available schemes. The diabetes service provided from Johnson Hospital is a level 3 intermediate service, so serving diabetes patients who have complex needs, and unable to achieve good diabetes control on oral or injected medication. Basic diabetes screening and routine diabetes reviews should be carried out by your GP practice. We do however offer education for newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetic patients with a 2 hour session with the dietitian and 2 hours with a specialist diabetes nurse. These sessions are available to anyone who has been diagnosed within the last year. Referral to these sessions is made via your GP.
