"Midwifery care"

We had our baby daughter on 25th July 2014 and the care provided before, during and after her birth was outstanding. My partner was induced early due to issues with gestational diabetes. This didn't work out and she had to have a cesarean. The little one then needed breathing assistance and care In the special baby unit for 24 hours. Through all this we experienced a variety of wards and departments All of them provided the utmost professional care. The doctors were professional and the midwives simply lovely. Thank you all so much. We are so grateful. The only minor critisms I have is that you rarely see the same midwife for long. But perhaps that is a deliberate policy? Also the visiting hours should be 24/7.

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide us with feedback - we are glad that you had such a good experience and will pass this on to the team. In respect of seeing the same midwife, we're not sure if your experience here relates to the community midwifery service or the hospital care that you received. In terms of community midwifery, we recognise this issue and it's mainly because a lot of community midwives work part-time. This is difficult to solve completely, but we've been working with our commissioners and neighbouring trusts to try and ensure that all women have one named community midwife, and do not see more than three midwives in total during their pregnancy. This is often less of an issue in hospital during birth, because our midwives work 12-hour shifts, but where change-overs do occur, we place great emphasis on continuity of care between midwives. Unfortunately, we do not have the facilities for all partners to stay overnight on the main postnatal wards. However, there is some flexibility based on need, and in our new Midwifery Led unit there is a double bed for partners to stay. Thank you again for your feedback.
