I have just visited A and E with my son who was ill. I would like to put some recommendations forward. (1). I remember when this ward was open and now it looks very dirty. The walls need to be repainted. (2). Can there be notice put up for parents to reprimand there screaming child. We were sat next to a lady who had a screaming shouting girl and the mother just sat there. You would expect that she had common sense and respect the fact that there are sick children in the ward. (3). More nurses and doctors are needed at peek times, to help with the flow. There were far too many patients and a handful of staff.

Dear Anonymous Thank you for letting us know about your visit. We appreciate that our Accident and Emergency department is showing its age, although our Estates department does have a rolling programme of repairs and refurbishments to try and keep our premises looking their best. I wish to assure you that our Emergency department is kept fully staffed but the layout of the department means that it is not always easy to see all the staff on duty. A&E is also an environment where we receive a high turnover of patients, and many are anxious and in pain. This can mean that people act out of character and may not appreciate the impact their behaviour has on other patients. Staff do their best to manage these situations and I am sorry that your visit was subject to this additional stress . In December This month we submitted a business case to the NHS Trust Development Authority to build a new emergency department at CUH. This is essential for Croydon and is backed by Croydon Council and the Clinical Commissioning Group. Our current A&E, originally built in the 1980s, has done us well considering every year it sees almost twice the number of patients it was originally built for, but no longer provides the facilities we and our patients need. Our new ED will transform ways of working for our clinical teams, give our patients much better care and will transform the way people view the hospital.
