"Poor experience of GP surgery in Mansfield"

About: Nottinghamshire County Teaching PCT

(as the patient),

I have recently left Churchside Medical Practice on Wood Street in Mansfield (Notts). Their service I found to be appalling. Having Asperger Syndrome over the phone and face to face communication can be quite a daunting task for me at the best of times. It was, however, made worse by the rude attitude of the reception staff.

If you called to make an appointment, no matter how urgent it was, the first thing you heard on the phone was 'can you hold the line please' and then the phone would go dead. You could be waiting for up to 10 minutes while they messed about, adding to your phone bill. Even if you were lucky enough to get through you'd be told the next available appointment was in 2-3 weeks time!

The GP I saw was very insensitive and did not deal with my needs very well at all. Once, during a phone call to order a repeat prescription I was told I had not had a review for a year, when in fact I had been in November 08! (This was May 09). My boyfriend then took over the call and explained the situation as they had reduced me to tears by arguing with me and making out I was a liar.

A few days later he received a letter in the mail saying he had been rude and abrupt and if he did it again he would be removed from the practice list! Talk about double standards (even though he was not at all rude or abrupt).

I have since registered at a surgery that I felt comfortable with as soon as I walked in, which is more than I can say for Chuchside.
