"Update on mums appalling visit to a and e."

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

After finally calling and contacting the nurse in charge mum finally had her x Ray at 11.30pm. However, although admitted at 8.00pm my poor mum suffering from dementia was left to wait until 1.15pm for the results of the x Ray. No pain relief was given to her the entire wait (5 hours) even though my brother asked for this repeatedly until 10 mins before she left! Horrendous care, no dignity or humility was given to my mum, which leaves us all now in a terrible predicament, should her condition require and hospital treatment in the future. When my brother complained, again about her care at the end of the visit, he was 'that's a Sunday night in a and e'. Diabolical.

Dear Reviewer We are really sorry and disappointed to read your comments. We have introduced a number of initiatives to improve dementia care and awareness among staff, but sadly it appears that we have let you mother down. The lack of pain relief offered is also absolutely unacceptable. In no way do we want you to feel anxiety about visiting our hospitals – especially not over concerns over the level of care we offer. We would very much like to discuss your mother’s visit to A&E with you further. Please email communications@uhl-tr.nhs.uk, with your name, your mother’s name, her date of birth and address. We hope to hear from you. Once again we are very sorry. Sincerely Robert Knight Communications Team Leicester’s Hospitals
