"A&E receptionist has attitude!"

About: Scunthorpe General Hospital

I rang A&E and was spoken to like a child! I asked if it was worth me coming up with my issue as I haven't been able to weight bare for 2 days now and if there was a very long waiting time and she 'tch'd' at me! and said you do not ring to see if it is busy. You either need to come or you don't. Could not believe my ears! I just said 'ok, bye'. Never felt so completely shut down in all my life! Receptionist needs to re-evaluate her communication skills!

Thank you for your comments. A&E is for life-threatening emergencies so the best advice we can give if you are unsure where to go or what to do is ring NHS 111 - the staff who answer will be able to advise if you need an ambulance, should attend A&E, see your GP (including referring you to the out-of-hours GP service if yours is shut), or self-medicate. Hope that is helpful, Sarah Mainprize
