"Missed 2 Fractures."

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

Original took my finance into A&E via ambulance with a suspected broken ankle. We waiting in A&E for 20 minutes and then placed into the waiting room after she was seen my a nurse. They then sent us round for a xray so I wheeled her along and then came back. We handed sheet into the nurse and then Sat in a sub waiting area as we watched her look at my fiance's xray. She then came out and told us there was nothing wrong and to go home and rest. no advice no tablets nothing. it was like she was trying to get rid of her. About a week later she started complaining of more pain in her ankle as she had been walking on it alot and even exercising so we we to the the GP for stronger pain killers old to be told then and there we needed to go to hospital and they found something. So we returned to a&e with the note from the consultant from radiology. The receptionist looked at us as we were stupid when we came in and said what we had came for. Then told us to sit in waiting area to wait and see what triage said. I was slightly confused as they told us it needed to be seen straight away, no the less we were seen by the doctor to be told she had 2 fractures in the Xray on her ankle and properly made it worse by walking on it! so thanks to the missed fractures it is now taking twice as long to recover. Mistake lane at its best!

Response from North Tyneside General Hospital

Dear Sir Thank you for getting in touch to share your experience with us. I am so sorry that your fiancé has had such a poor experience of care in A&E. I absolutely understand your frustration and upset, particularly after your fiancé has been told that her recovery from these fractures will now be prolonged. I can understand that it might be more helpful to you have to have a more personalised response to the issues you describe. I would really grateful if you could contact me at Annie.laverty@northumbria-healthcare.nhs.uk to provide me with some further details. Best Wishes Annie
