"Initial reactions on admission"

I have just left my husband at the hospital as he undergoes a total knee operation He was told that he would be in the hospital for 5 days and as such he had a suitcase with dressing gown, nightwear, day wear, toiletries, medication etc. My husband suffers from obstructive sleep apnoea and he also had to take his CPAP machine. The physiotherapist also told him to take his wheeled walker and crutches with him. This added up to a lot of luggage. He was told to go to the day centre where he was to be admitted for surgery. I went with him as he could not have managed by himself. I had to sit with him and other male patients while he waited for his operation. I was then told to take his belongings up to ward 7B. When I arrived on the ward I was told that they did not know which bed he would have and I had to leave his belongings behind the desk. I was told to ring up later (no specific time could be given) to see if I could visit that day. My concern is that my husband will not be able to get anything from his case, he may need his CPAP machine in recovery and I have no idea when he will be admitted on the ward. I thought that we would have been able to organise his belongings on the ward and would have been given better information before mu husband went down for his operation. I have been made to feel a nuisance in that we had a lot of luggage that we were told to bring and I have just now arrived back home with no idea of what is happening..
