I was referred fast-track with Iron Deficiency Anaemia. I had Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy on 8 November. Following the excitement of using Moviprep at home I arrived in the Dept and was admitted after a short wait. This meant it was possible to interact with other patients, some of whom are quite worried about the procedures or their underlying condition requiring Endoscopy. I cannot fault any aspect of my care that day, for what can be a rather undignified procedure. I decided against sedation so could discuss matters with the Endoscopist and other staff in the room. I was able to see the screen for my Colonoscopy which I found really very helpful. Having full reports immediately afterwards (except biopsy results) was most useful to me and I appreciated the full discussion of these with the discharging nurse. Overall a good experience for me - its my body and I now know more about it!.

Dear Stephen H Thank you for sharing your experience of our Endoscopy Department and the delights of Moviprep. I am pleased to hear that your wait for admission wasn’t too long and that you were happy to spend the time engaging with the other patients as I am sure this would be a helpful distraction for them. We believe that patient choice is an important part of the treatment we provide at Bournemouth Hospital, as you said “it’s your body”, and I am pleased that you were able to make an informed choice about declining the sedation which for you was the right choice, as it gave you the opportunity to discuss your procedure with the Endoscopist. It is good to hear that you had access to the report immediately after the treatment and the information you received from the discharging nurse was helpful to you and I hope that the results of the biopsy come back with good news for you too. Thank you once again for letting us know that we were able to make an undignified procedure slightly more bearable for you and I wish you well for the future.
