"Day patient"

Arrived on the ward for my op at 8 am as directed to do so on the letter greated by a lovely receptionist who informed me I was third on the list but there was no rooms and guided me to a day room, with chairs and beds were another 3 ladies were also waiting. After a short while the anaesthetist came and called my name and took me to the side and asked a series of questions of what I was having done today etc, I had to reply to these in full ear shot of other people! Then some time passed the doctor came to see me with a student doctor and once again discussed everything on my consent form what I was having done in front of other people and also asked if the student doctor could give me an internal examination whilst I was in the operating theatre! Surely they should have taken me to somewhere private to discuss both of these! At 11.45 I was formally admitted by a nurse who 1st day it was on this ward at least she had the decency to take me right across to the other side of the room to ask me questions. At 12.10 a room was available I was asked to go the room with a Health Care assistant who was a lovely lady, I asked if this was normal waiting around and waiting for beds she said that yes it was normal and they were always like this! Didn't have much time to think I was measured for stockings and whipped down to the theatre for approx 12.20. At 13.30 I was waking in recovery, operation all done. The nurses in recovery were also very kind and did do there best, I was still waiting in recovery at 3.30 (2 hours) to go back to the ward the recovery staff had called the ward four times , I appreciate everybody is busy and pulled from pillar to post but I think my whole experience up to this point was appalling. The time I had spent in recovery the doctor came to see me and told me everything went ok but apart from that I can not remember what else she said I was still in recovery. After being back on the ward I asked for a drink, some time had passed I was desperate after the last drink was at 5.50am my partner went to get me a jug of water otherwise god only knows how long I would have been waiting. The health care assistant that had taken me down to theatre brought me a cup of tea ahh lovely. And also an egg mayo sandwich great something to eat. Nurses were taking my obs and I asked for pain relief 1hour or so later I had to ask again I was told that because I had had GA ? GA what is this I asked! General anesthetic I was told I had to drink eat go to the toilet and have a walk around (which I had already done)and I would be given a discharge letter and pain relief and I could go home. Another nurse came and said I was free to go with no discharge letter and no pain relief . It was safe to say that I was glad very glad I was going home! I would describe my experience once again with Doncaster as appalling
