"Broken ankle recovery"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

I recently broke my ankle very badly. I would like to reassure anyone else who finds themselves in this situation. Initially the speedy assessment and treatment at North Tyneside Accident & Emergency ensured that an operation was carried out the next day. The Consultant explained in clear detail the surgery. Subsequently I have been closely monitored by the Fracture Clinic where the staff have been very supportive and helpful. My plaster caste was removed after 2 weeks and I was supplied with a boot and immediately seen by a physiotherapist and started on exercises. Following a visit to the Consultant six weeks later I was supplied with an airwalk boot. Having regular visits to Physiotherapy to monitor my progress has been very significant where I received a great deal of morale boosting encouragement and helpful advice. I have been discharged by the Consultant who was very pleased with my progess. Due to the treatment I have received I am quite mobile, my ankle is very flexible and I am enjoying wearing shoes again! Physiotherapy is continuing for some weeks to ensure I regain my strength. I would like to thank the afore mentioned staff for their efforts to ensure such a successful outcome and for their assistance in my recovery.

Dear Sir/Madam, I am so pleased that you have made such an excellent recovery, after what sounds like quite a bad break to your ankle. It is very kind of you to let our staff know just how much their care has meant to you. Thank you also for acknowledging the part that all members of the team had to play in your care - they'll be delighted to know that you have felt well supported and cared for throughout. Take good care of yourself and wishing you continued strength for those physiotherapy exercisies. Do please let us know if there is anything we can help with. Annie
