"Service frustrating"

About: Royal Hampshire County Hospital

Discharges delayed because of pharmacy closed at w'end, or medication arriving late on ward -how cost-effective is that? Care assistants on wards were magnificent and very sensitive in preserving dignity for patients. Follow-up O.P. Appt given 18 months after discharge as in-patient......! Impossible to obtain results of biopsy. 12 days after biopsy taken, 6 tel calls to g.p., 10 phone calls to oral surgery department, to try and obtain information.. It's not rocket science to understand that anyone having a biopsy is going to need and be anxious re: results, but where is the systemFor ensuring that the patient receives these in a timely manner? Overall, there appears to be a lack of management, a lack of the most basic systems. ( I.e. No discharge protocol, no protocol for recording and communicating info. To patient) and lack of accountability, no-one takes direct responsibility. Generally, staff working hard and sensitively in face-to-face contact with patients. Rosie smith
