"Dermatology Royal Hallamshire"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Dermatology

(as the patient),

I was referred to the Royal hallamshire hospital dermatology department and had my first appointment in October 2008 with Professor Gawkrodger.

Professor Gawkrodger was extremely professional and understanding about my skin complaint and prescribed a potent drug called isotretinoin.

Most of the staff in the department were also VERY professional and we were able to work around my university schedule with extra prescriptions being written if I would run out over christmas etc. The staff also took a good period of time to have a chat with me about how my treatment was going.

I would like to say also that twice during my appointments with a nurse, another nurse suddenly burst in to the room asking for help/advice.

I do however feel a little dissapointed that some of the staff in the department want to bring me off the medication when my skin hasn't completely "healed". I havn't been brought off the drug as yet. however I really do feel that the staff are 'playing the numbers game' by trying to not make my treatment length go beyond what is considered to be the norm', rather than making my skin better. I will update this post after I have had my next appointment.
