"Midwife appointments"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Maternity unit

(as the patient),

I am currently overdue in my pregnancy. I saw a midwife yesterday at my GP surgery, who advised that they would like me to return next week for another sweep. She also booked me in for an induction on at the beginning of December at the hospital. Due to some confusion with reception staff and the midwife I waited for 15 mins only to be told there were no appointments and they were unsure how to organise one. It was arranged for someone to call me back today.

I was called back today only to have to repeat the same story (what happens to notes? ) and repeatedly advise the midwife when my due date was etc. eventually after a second phone call I was offered an appointment for another sweep on the day before I am due to be induced. I accepted this but upon reflection I think it's a waste of time, having a sweep 21 hours before an induction. Surely I should be able to get an appointment before this especially as the midwives cover 3 other surgeries in my area? I feel that this is bad planning and care to be honest.

Thank you for your posting.

As I am unsure of the date your baby is due, you may be receiving this response as a new mum.

I am sorry to hear about the delay and confusion around your appointment at the surgery and no-one being able to arrange a suitable follow up. Appointment slots are arranged in conjunction with the surgery but I would have expected staff to be able to arrange a suitable alternative in these situations.

All information is held in the case notes which mums-to-be carry but there should have been information passed around basic details why you were being contacted. I understand having to repeat information is frustrating and I apologise for this. I am unsure which surgery and Midwifery Team you attended but will certainly highlight your experience of our care to all midwifery staff and ask them to come up with solutions to ensure this does not happen again.

Can I take this opportunity to send best wishes and say that it would be good to hear the exciting news when your baby arrives, if you are happy to share with us.
