"I was not informed about test results"

About: NHS England London

(as the patient),

A recent blood result showed that I have high blood glucose levels. On having a visit with the nurse I was shocked to be told that given it was the second high result that I was diagnosed as being diabetic. It seems that results in April showed high levels and I had not been told about this at all.

I have been feeling unwell and have visited the GP on numerous occasions over the last 6 months and a simple explanation of being told about blood sugars may have helped me manage my health. Should I not have been asked for another blood test 3 months after the April results?

I had even had to visit A&E in August and told I may have a cyst which may not have happened as I was fasting that day for Ramadhan and understandably my diet was not being managed as it should have been (given I was oblivious to the fact I was diabetic). I then paid a significant amount for a private pelvic ultrasound which was unnecassary as it was clear. My optician also referred me to the GP for tests last year and my vision has deteriorated very quickly in a short space of time. The GP should have picked up on this and directed me to a diabetes specialist earlier.

I feel that it has been a clear act of negligence on the part of the practice and have still yet to speak to someone to explain the oversight in detail. This should not have happened and I would like to ensure that it does not happen to anyone else again. As a mother of a very young child my health is of greater concern than it has ever been and I am not willing to take this matter lightly. I am still trying to deal with the fact that I have been told am diabetic, however, the matter of how the practice has dealt with my results, my files and me as a patient is a separate matter which I would also like to discuss properly.
