"Cancer care and diagnosis"

About: Heartlands Hospital

My wife was diagnosed with late stage womb cancer and was admitted for a blood transfusion prior to chemotherapy. As soon as the word cancer is mentioned, especially late stage cancer your world falls apart, although we knew that the prognosis was not good I can't help but feel that delays and mistakes were made that certainly didn't give me confidence in the consultants/doctors. The nursing staff were very good and I'm sure they did there best, however the doctors and consultants seem to have a cold detachment and it almost seems that they use the nurses as buffers. Having said that there were a couple of night doctors that were exceptional. Since my wife died I have completely lost confidence in the medical profession and feel that if you need minor surgery that's Ok, however chuck a complex cancer into the equation and, well?

Dear Mr Hampshire

May I firstly offer my condolences on the passing of your wife, and my sincerest apologies for the late response to your post.

I completely appreciate this is a very difficult time for you but I am concerned about your experience, and the delays and mistakes you describe in your late wife's care. I would very much like to investigate these in more detail. If you would like to contact me when you feel ready to discuss further, you can either call Patient Services on 0121 424 0808, or if you would prefer, email our Patient Services Manager Iona Belgrove at iona.belgrove@heartofengland.nhs.uk

Thank you and Kind Regards

Marie Helebert
