I have had a minor procedure at this hospital in the summer, and the procedure went well. Despite them losing my notes on the morning of the surgery. There were several areas of poor communication afterwards, including a wrongfully scheduled review within 4 'months', which should have read 4 weeks. I was then put on some medication=depot injection, without ANY prior consultation in person, and therefore not warned of side effects, or where I could access support. My own GP couldn't help, and the hospital was slow to respond. In fact, if the hospital had of done a proper history check with me, they would have noted my past history of depression, and the current medication are not compatible. Now they have messed up with appointments, and surgery dates, as I have 'two sets' of notes, which is what I complained about formally during the summer, and still, this has not been resolved. Completely incompetent, patient care is zero. I know they have women in far less fortunate circumstances, eg cancer, and I really feel for these women, and accept that their care is the utmost priority. But the care needs to be expressed to all patients. The registrar was useless, and has about as much empathy as a wet fish, and in fact offered me one surgical option, when I knew of three others! I have seen the consultant once, who was very nice an made sense, but the consultant is clearly over stretched. There needs to be a referral point eg nurse consultations for medications/side effects etc, and ensuring that all registrars have fully read notes before consulting, and not asking me to repeat basic history every time I go in!! Left hand does not know what the right hand is doing!!!! Come on, better organisation Derby Royal!!!!! So I wait my op date, which has been mixed up due to 'two sets' of notes..the incompetency wrangles on!! I do have faith in the Consultant/Surgeon thankfully, but sadly, not in care, ward staff etc, so you had better prove me wrong when I am an in patient!!!!!!! I agree to a previous post that the best people there are the wonderful theatre nurses, who really put me at ease!! so its not hard to ask: More compassion. Better access to support when needed: better overall plan of treatment and counselling of options. One set of notes. Nurses that treat people with respect, time and dignity, and registrars that are Confident, actually have empathy, know the history and treatment plan, and more support for the consultant with a better whole re structure of the wards/care/continuity..I could organise it better myself!! My family and friends are appalled by the incompetency.
