"Distressing experience by staff member in A&E"

We first attended the A&E with my husband on Sunday 26th October with retention of urine and that visit resulted in him being catheterised and sent home with anti-biotics to combat what they believed was a urine infection. However the following day, my husbands condition had deteriorated which serverely concerned me and he had Rigors, high temperatures, sweating, vomiting and abdominal pain. I took the immediate decision to return to A&E. This is where my experience began to go downhill. The triage nurse who was on late duty that night was particularly rude and condescending during my visit. Upon arrival the nurse did not introduce themself, and when my husband began to provide his history and why he had returned, the nurse was very disinterested and off-hand in what he had to say making us feel quite small, and also kept repeating the question "why are you here?" without accepting our responses. At this point, I stepped in to explain how he had a high temperature and with no warning the nurse inserted a thermometer into his ear and declared he had "37.4" to which I replied that his temperature was 39 before we came in but I had given him paracetamol an hour before he left which would explain the reduction. As a former NHS Worker (Midwife) I knew that the symptoms I was witnessing were of grave concern. Once the Doctors examined him, the decision was made to admit him and he was treated with an IV antibiotics and stayed for five days. We feel that the dismissive approach shown by the nurse was unprofessional. The overall professialism shown by other staff members during the stay was good. However I believe that this nurse's attitude contributed to what was already a distressing experience for us all.
