"Problems with special diet required by hospital"

This is my second stay in MK Hospital this year. The first was a chapter of accidents and mishaps, maybe one day I'll write about how the doctor wrote me up for the wrong medication before going off for the weekend, or the saga of how they lost my false teeth - watch this space. But for now I'll just tell you the latest nonsense. I'm to have a procedure on Monday (it's Saturday right now) which requires a restricted diet till then. No dairy,fibre,fruit or veg, red meat, whatever. Doctor told me about this on Friday and gave me a leaflet about the diet. Going on past experience that if something can go wrong in here it will, I asked her how the food would be organised and she assured me it was all arranged and would just appear. Well, you can guess what's happening. Nothing special turned up at breakfast, no Cofffee Mate, no boiled or poached egg, no low fat spread. So, black coffee and dry toast. I asked several times what would happen at lunch and was soothed and palliated but no concrete information. Imagine my surprise when no lunch materialised! Not, of course. Once all the routine lunches were served a nurse told me they would going to fetch me some food off my list and asked what I would prefer. I asked for the mythical eggs with mashed potato, or if not then chicken and gravy. Imagine, again, my surprise when none of this was possible! Again, not really. I have had a small bowl of clear soup and a fruit jelly. I am ravenous. Oh, I am also diabetic, so will end up on a drip before the weekend is out if I don't get fed. I have made several attempts to find out how provision will be made for supper, but no one wants to talk to me about it. Instead I have been given a standard menu to fill in. I have no notion of how this is supposed to help. There are no doctors or managers here because it is the weekend. The overworked nursing staff have no idea how to deal with the situation and it isn't their fault, but they are the only hospital staff I have access to. Any suggestions?
