"A blessing in disguise"

About: Harmoni / NHS 111 St George's Hospital (Tooting) / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as the patient),

I am 79 years old man. I started having severe throat pain in October and I rang my Southfields Group Practice surgery and spoke a doctor there and was prescribed an antibiotic but the pain got worse and the following day I spoke another doctor who prescribed me a mouth wash without asking me to see him. But the pain got still worse so on the following day I rang 111 and was given and appointment to see a locum doctor on the same day at a local walk-in clinic (Brocklebank).

On examination of my throat, the doctor found that I was suffering from a severe attack of QUINSY. She straightaway rang St. Georges Hospital for me to be treated on the same day. I went to the hospital where pus was injected out from my throat and put on intravenous antibiotics and discharged from the hospital on the following, I was on antibiotics for ten days and recovered fully.

I found 111 service extremely helpful managed by a team of dedicated and efficient staff. I am very pleased with 111 and feel it is a blessing in disguise.
