"thanks to the doctors and nurses for treating my mum kindly despite her sore head "

About: North Middlesex Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My elderly mum fell on her head in night, went to A&E at 2.30 am by ambulance. She had stitches (not that quick) and breakfast (quite nice) and various doctors and nurses and x-rays and physios to check for fractures and mobility before discharge. After a "very nice" lunch (pasta and tomato sauce) she was eventually went home, electing to take a minicab rather than wait for the ambulance.

Although sometimes a bit confused and very tired, she kept saying how wonderful and kind the doctors and nurses were to her and how nicely they talked to her. If there was one grumble about the whole experience (for the sake of balance?) it was not being able to find a wheelchair to take her to reception, as she arrived by ambulance and wasn't able to bring her own walking frame. I went off in search and my mum meanwhile started walking the 100 yards or so from the ward by herself (with a borrowed frame) and by the time I got back to her without a wheelchair she had sat down on a bench exhausted to get her breath back and a doctor had stopped to check she was OK and they were having a good old chat. Which I thought typified the experience: very nice, caring staff, with sometimes slightly ancient systems that they do their best to work around.

My mum also praised the shiny clean floor, which surprised me and insisted on stopping for coffee at the cafe, which she said was excellent. Head wound OK but definitely in need of a sleep by the time she got home a bit grumpy. Thanks to all in A&E and the observation ward for your help and kindness.
