"We were not told our Mother had MRSA"

About: St Helier Hospital

(as a relative),

Having obtained our late mother's medical records, we have discovered that she contracted MRSA while on the orthopeadic ward in St Helier Hospital Carlshalton. When she was moved from a 4 bed ward to a single room we were told it was because she was making too much noise and had pneumonia. No-one told us she had MRSA and our whole family continued visiting her (including her grandchildren) ignorant of the risk of infection. She subsequently died of pneumonia and other heart related illness. No-where on the death certificate does it mention MRSA. She went downhill very fast after being moved to the single room. We will never know if the MRSA was a major factor in her death. Why oh why do hospital staff still fail to tell us when our loved ones have contracted these hospital aquired diseaeses??
