"scary and shambolic"

About: Southmead Hospital

After waiting 9 months for my "urgent" operation I was finally given a date of October 23rd at 7am. I have spent most of the year battling for information as from March it was seemingly impossible to be given a date. On one occasion the booking coordinator told me there was no point issuing me with a date as I "would just be sent home again" - she sounded very stressed! The day before my op I called to ask some questions only to be told my op was moved from 7am to 1pm. Nobody contacted me to tell me tho previously. An hour later I was called to say I was due in at 9:30am. Nobody was clear on what had happened. I arrived on time and was seen straight away. I then waited 6 hours before being sent home due to faulty equipment and a lack of spares! No food or drink all day. Nurses I spoke to were lovely, as were the doctors, but they all urged me to complain so something had to be done. I wouldn't wish that hospital on my worst enemy. I have to go back tomorrow and I'm terrified, the experience there is the opposite of care and respect! The staff generally have been great when I'm there, but the institution is a shambles. I can't wait till my op and then I will never go there again, or let anyone I care about be referred there. Worst hospital I've ever been subjected too.
