"maternity experience"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

I came into the maternity wing in labour full of pain. The midwife who was on my case was okay. But when things got complicated and I asked to see a doctor it took at least 5 hours for one to be available. Same with the anaesthetist. I was in so much pain at 4 am, I requested an epidural, same wait. 'He'll be here in 30 minutes. .. another 30 minutes you'll be the first one they'll see...' Needless to say, he came after 9 am only to inform me that I should wait for the doctor. .. Even when the doctor came, she wasn't convinced that something was seriously wrong and I was requesting a cesarean section by this point. I ended up with an emergency cesarean section after all the unnecessary traumatic experience. Two days later, I am ready to go home, nobody comes to check on me. I ask a midwife I meet in the corridor at noon and she reassures me that she'll be in to see me. Two hours later I ask the nurse handing out painkillers and she informs me that the midwife assigned to me was only working half day today so she's gone home and unfortunately everybody else is busy. ... For a hospital short of beds wouldn't you want me to go home and give my bed to someone else? ,?? Don't get me started on all the other experiences here. Having said that, most of the staff were nice and friendly. Especially the nursery nurses, the dinner ladies are excellent - very well mannered. The only problem I had was with a few staff members who just yank your curtains open, without asking to come in. No dignity or privacy assured. After wards they leave the curtains open so you have to get up and close them again yourself. I find that very rude.. I wouldn't come back here if I had a choice. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else either.
