"Rude female sonographer"

About: North Middlesex Hospital

I visited this hospital today at 9.40am with my husband & 20 month old on, for my scheduled 20 week scan. The female sonographer was very unwelcoming, I could tell she was in a mood & wanting to vent it on someone. Well I would of preferred that someone not be me, a vulnerable pregnant women. I came to the appointment in high spirits & left feeling a bit upset. First of all what happened was she asked for my maternity notes which I had to retrieve from the bottom of my pram, whilst doing this she moved the table for lying on closer to me & it bashed my leg ( I bruise easily)...I brushed that off as an accident, then she couldn't find a paper in my notes & was a bit annoyed by it ( it was all in the tone of voice) Then as I was lying on the table ready for the scan she said in a rude manner can you come closer. She also seemed rushed & seemed not to like her job. I believe that every pregnant woman should be treat with care & kindness & on this occasion it was supposed to be a wonderful time for me & my family to see our babies progression. I am worried now if I would want to give birth here, I would like to visit the labour ward to view the accommodation & ask questions about the care I will receive.

Thank you for your comments. I am the service managing director, joanne.mccaffrey@nhs.net and will be sharing your comments with my team. I have passed on your comments to Meredith Deane, head of midwifery and she has requested that you email her, meredith.deane@nhs.net so that she can contact you and make arrangements for you to visit and to ensure your anxiety about your maternity care can be discussed with you and you can be reassured.
