"Minor Injuries a review of services"

About: Kidderminster Hospital

The NHS is the best thing to ever happen to the UK, but the only way to ensure that complacency and bad service doesn't take hold is for patients to tell them when things go wrong. Then if the management fail to act and improve, they are at fault. No doctors only nurses at Minor Injuries when I visited. Minor Injuries, 2 nurses had a couldn't be bothered attitude. I gave them full history when asked, which was I had previously injured the same area and was to have physio in the new year (doctor prescribed). However, I fell onto the injured shoulder that morning and was now in severe pain, couldn't raise arm to shoulder height and the shoulder was higher than the other (almost fused with collar bone also moving a great deal). No x-ray offered for severely painful injury, they told me it could be a torn ligament but it was not a break, no advise was offered other than to attend physio as the doctor had prescribed? I was told that I couldn't have 2nd opinion and if I wanted one, told to go to Worcester or Redditch (could not drive due to injury). After being in constant pain for a month I attended physio (fabulous... even more severe pain, shoulder movement increased during pysio, but becoming worse afterwards). My complaints to Kidderminster Hospital were ignored, their staff decisions defended even by the Chief Executive and my further correspondence to follow up my complaint ignored.) A Matron at Kidderminster who was the go between, finally spoke to a consultant and I was given MRI and found to have a torn ligament, after a year of waiting. I'm not sure how bad, no one really discussed it but I'm guessing physio wouldn't have helped? At that time I still could not lift my arm sideways to shoulder height, also shoulder on the injured side when lifted was far higher than the other side and looked distorted (same when visited KH the first time), by this time collar bone was also causing issue (pain, discomfort). After waiting for the MRI I saw the consultant again and was offered procedure by consultant to force rotate the shoulder to create more movement (one shoulder higher than other with limited upper movement at the time), but after all the time with the injury, the shoulder had a little improved movement and the consultant was happy for me to continue with exercises. Basically, if they delay it long enough almost anything improves. After several years of pain, the shoulder is about 70% as good as it was.
