After being kicked off one GP’s patient list because of moving out of the area (despite being pregnant). I finally found a new GP, however, due to problems with my pregnancy, as well as the surgery being a 25 minute walk away, I was often a few minutes late for the odd appointment.
When I was 7 months pregnant, my oldest daughter (5 at the time) contracted measles. I was given a lecture by my GP for not having had her vaccinated, despite the bad coverage surrounding the immunisation at the time she was due it. I was told I was "ridiculous" for listening to such reports & made to feel inadequate for not having had her immunised.
After this incident, I felt I was disliked at the surgery & began to dread appointments. I have since been read the amount of "lates" I've had since joining the surgery whilst attending an appointment. This made me feel small & embarrassed. I tried to explain the distance & the troubles I'd had in pregnancy but was told if I'm late again I will be thrown off the patient list!
Since then I have taken my youngest daughter to several appointments & recently took her to be checked out due to a bad cough she had, which was causing her to be sick. I was sent away twice by the same doctor, who told me my over-the-counter medicines were useless, but I could continue to use them "if it made me feel better". On the third occasion, a different doctor diagnosed a chest infection, & gave my daughter (who was 10 months old) some antibiotics. I am disgusted with the surgery & no longer wish to attend there. However, I’m unable to join a new surgery, as they often refuse because I'm already registered with a doctor in the area. Does anyone know my rights regarding this, & am I being unreasonable?
