"Problems contacting the District Nurse"

About: St Bartholomew's Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

My wife has chemotherapy treatment at home, on Wednesday the nurse came to give her the treatment and today, Friday, the pump used to deliver the treatment should have been removed. The District Nurse should have arrived at 2: 00 pm to remove the pump but has not turned up.

The frustrating thing is that we cannot even contact them to find out whether they have been delayed or are not coming and if so what we should do. The contact number we were given rings and rings and then goes through to an answerphone but no-one calls back if you leave a message.

We tried calling several times today to find out what was happening but have not managed to speak to anyone. The first two treatments my wife received at home went very smoothly but this week it has not. We cannot deal with the pump ourselves as it needs to be flushed through so we are dependent on the district nurses coming on time or letting us know if there are delays. The condition and the treatment are stressful enough without having to deal with problems like this – my wife is now on her way to Bart’s hospital to have the pump sorted out.
