My Dad; George Backhouse was admitted into A&E on 6 October after a fall at home; from there that evening he was taken to Fairfax Ward where he spent the night. On 7 October he had a wash out by the orthopaedic team on his ankle under general anaesthetic. On return from theatre he was admitted to Nicholas Ward where he spent several days before moving to Avon Ward where he died on 23 October at the age of 93. He was very poorly when he was originally admitted with heart failure and dementia. We couldn't have wished for better care from all the staff throughout his stay, so on behalf of my Mum and Dad and my sister Valerie I sent the following words to each ward in a card each today. 'To everyone on the ward on behalf of my Mum and my sister Valerie and particularly my Dad George we just wanted to thank you for your exemplary care and supreme kindness shown to us all. Every single one of you, no matter how much or how little did everything you could do to treat Dad, look after him and try your best to help him to get better or just feel better. Not only that you looked after us too and we will be forever grateful that his last days were so peaceful and so dignified. You all deserve the highest of compliments and I will be writing to the Chief Executive and the local MP to that effect.'
