"Very satisfactory hernia operation"

About: Grantham & District Hospital

I was admitted to Grantham Hospital for a hernia operation on 21st October. I must admit that I went in with some trepidation as one hears and reads so much in the media about the failings of the NHS, but I have nothing but praise for the treatment I received. I was given full information before I was admitted about the whole procedure, and found everyone most pleasant and helpful. All of the ward staff, whether nursing, cleaning or catering, were very caring and understanding. The conversations with the surgeon and anaesthetist were valuable, and a boost to one's confidence. All the theatre staff were most efficient, but relaxed, and in Ward 2, although the nurses were very busy, they were friendly and supportive, taking care very professionally and keeping me fully in the picture about my progress. I am full of admiration for the work of all the hospital personnel. I have 2 granddaughters who are nurses, so know the demoralising effect the actions of government, and the hysterical criticisms by the press, are having on NHS staff, so I hope that when comments such as mine get back to the hospital the staff on the "shop floor" are made aware of them.
