"Very disappointed in care"

About: Minehead Community Hospital

I came to the miu because it is the closest place to me for medical assistance (10mins away) I entered at 4pm suffering with a numb arm & having experienced speech problems. (A family member was concerned when I told them & sent me there) on arrival I was told "sorry we can't help as the miu is for minor injuries, try ringing 111" I was told I could use their phone, which seemed to cut me off, twice! I then left & phoned from mobile in the car park. After an assessment on the phone was told I may have suffered a mini stroke so had to go back into miu as paramedics were being sent! After 4 hours, no food,no paramedics & 2 calls with ambulance service it was finally agreed my husband could take me straight to taunton hospital! During this time the on-call Dr had "popped out" for a break as he'd been in all day but would be back for an appt, so he might see me! Guess again! He said he couldn't do anything anyway (he didn't come to see me & tell me though!) by 10pm I was being treated in taunton hospital for poss mini stroke now referred to stroke clinic.

Dear postee I was really sorry to read of your recent experience at Minehead MIU department. Thank you for taking the time to share the information with Somerset Partnership. I will forward your comments to the Head of Service to look into what happened, but they will require further detail in order to complete a thorough investigation, if you could send the Patient Advice and Liaison Service, (PALS), your full name, address, date of birth and the date that you visited the MIU, and any other information that you feel would help in looking into your experience, PALS will ensure that this is also provided to the head of service. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with Somerset Partnership. Please contact: Karen Howard-Grenville PALS Specialist Tel. No. 01278 432022 or email us at: pals@sompar.nhs.uk
