"The Paramedic & Hospital Response Was Excellent"

About: Torbay Hospital

Late in the evening of Wednesday 24th September 2014 I found my Wife sitting on the edge of our bed struggling to breathe. From the moment the Paramedic Team arrived at our home the Paramedics (a young persons team) relieved my Wife's physical pain and improved her breathing with oxygen treatment. Throughout the treatment in our home, outside in the ambulance and on route to Torbay Hospital, the Paramedics treated my Wife with concern and respect. At A&E, the Torbay Hospital Team under the supervision of a female Doctor demonstrated medical professionalism in a manner which was engaging and reassuring. The Doctor's empathy put me at ease, and I felt less anxious and more comfortable once my Wife's condition had been stabilised. I also felt my Wife was in safe and caring hands when I had to leave Torbay Hospital A&E Department for home. Later in the early morning of Thursday 25th September my Wife was transferred from A&E to AEU4 where she was treated by competent Nurses who were caring, thorough and reassuring. Later that day the Hospital moved my Wife to the Cardiac Ward where her treatment and monitoring continued with the same quality of care under the supervision of the consultant and her Team. Having made several visits to the Cardiac Ward I was impressed with the care and treatment my Wife received, and it is my hope that all NHS Hospital Units are managed with the compassion and awareness the consultant and her Torbay Hospital Team demonstrated during the short time my Wife was in their care. The Heart Failure Nurse who was part of the team was informative, patient, warm and caring, and provided an endless source of information to my Wife and myself. Her follow up visit to our home on Wednesday 1st October made my Wife feel even more comfortable when the nurse told my Wife she was confident my Wife was likely to regain her normal good heath and fitness very soon. How right was their diagnosis, as my Wife is now back into her regular daily walks and exercise routine in our local Teignmouth gym. My comments are principally to express my gratitude for the professional clinical treatment my Wife received from the Paramedic Team, in Torbay Hospital A&E Department and the Cardiac Unit Teams. Without question it was the response, treatment and care from these dedicated caring teams that helped my Wife recover from this life threatening experience, and no words can really express how much this medical excellence was appreciated by my Wife, myself and our family. With Thanks to all the Torbay Hospital Teams
