"Acute Surgery Unit"

About: Southampton General Hospital

So, I went into A&E on Tuesday afternoon with abdominal pain and after around 45 min or so was seen by the triage nurse. Shortly after I was taken to Major for examination and after a few blood tests and an ECG it was decided i should be monitored in the acute surgery unit for possible appendicitis due to a long family history of it. Wednesday afternoon i was sent home but told to return if I felt worse. So as I felt even worse by Thursday afternoon I phoned the unit who told me to come back in and they was very friendly and didn't make me feel like I was being a nuisance in anyway. the staff was very nice on arrival and chatted to me and took me to the room. Where I doctor who I had already met on Thursday came with a student doctor to get more blood samples. The student doctor who took blood was quite good despite struggling to get a decent vain, both her and the doctor was very friendly and nice to talk to. Later that night the consultant came round and said he thinks the best thing was a ultrasound the next morning, then shortly after I was taken to the ward where I was given everything I needed and a nurse helped me order food. the next morning I had an ultrasound which didn't really show anything and as my blood was fine and so was the ultrasound I was told I was allowed to go home. I felt the care was excellent and the nurses and doctors was very good and friendly. I'm glad it turned out to be nothing, though no doubt if there was something wrong it would have been dealt with appropriately and smoothly. I hope the hospital keeps up its great performance
