"very frustrating experience in maternity ward"

After giving birth to my daughter in the new delivery suite and feeling very grateful and happy with the facilities and hospital staff, the midwife decided me and my baby should be transferred to the maternity ward for a twelve hour observation period. I was not expecting what happened next. The maternity ward is extremely dated and depressing, short staffed, and not a very friendly place to be with a newborn when you're supposed to be enjoying every minute. I was kept there for the night and they would only allow one of my birth partners to stay for the night so I had to choose between my husband who naturally wanted to stsy with me and his newborn and my foreign mother who can't speak English or travel alone in London which was very upsetting. On Saturday I felt completely abandoned by the staff, my baby had one check in the morning and they only said the baby doctor would see us later and discharge us, at 6PM we still hadn't been seen and whenever we asked what was happening they would just say they didn't know and that we had to wait. I felt imprisoned and helpless and very upset that the happiest day of my life was being so frustrated by the lack of empathy of everyone in the ward. It was until I called one of the midwives and bursted crying and explained to her that I didn't understand why I was still there if both me and baby were well that she very kindly called the specialist midwife who did a check on my baby and after a very lovely pediatrician saw us we were finally discharged at nearly 10PM. Overall the experience was really good up until we were transferred to the ward when it became very traumatising.

We are aware that the maternity ward currently does not provide the same accommodation as the rest of the maternity unit, this is a temporary location and soon we will move into a newly refurbished ward.
