"I was seen very quickly in A&E ..."

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was seen very quickly in A&E following a GP referral and was treated with dignity and respect by the nurse who saw me. He was a cresit to the hospital.

The A&E department was clean and light with a large TV screen to keep you amused when waiting (although I didn't wait for long at all).

The eye specialist I saw in the eye casualty department was very kind and took the time to explain things to me, and I left with clear understanding.

What could be improved

After being referred to the eye casualty the nurse who saw me refused to believe there was something wrong, even though I was struggling to open my eyes and they were clearly very painful. She treated me like a waste of time, and her attitude wasn't helpful and made me feel like I shouldn't have attended. As a student nurse myself hope I would never speak to someone in this way, as I now understand how belittled it makes you feel.

Anything else?

Overall the standard of care I received was excellent, however the experience was marred by the one nurse. I hope I just caught her on a bad day, but otherwise the staff were friendly and informative, and I recieved a high standard of care.

Thanks for letting us know about your experience. Sorry to hear about the nurse in eye casualty. We have asked Sister to have a look at your comment but it's difficult to follow up on without knowing more detail. All the very best for your career in nursing.
