"Nothing but problems and mistakes with my..."

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

I was first admitted to hospital at the end of September 2014 to the clinical decision unit. Here the staff thought it appropriate to have a full blown conversation in the middle of the ward in the middle of the night, even caught one nurse on their mobile! I spent three days here during that time I was nil by mouth for one day in order to have a camera which at 7pm I was told it hadn't been booked, so I could eat. I was then moved onto a ward at 2am. Suffered numerous problems and mistakes on the ward to then be told after 5 days I had been discharged and just needed to wait for paperwork, by 8pm I was still there waiting! In fact paperwork hadn't been completed it had been forgotten and I couldn't go home. Waiting family then went home to then told at 9pm I could go home so they would need to return to collect me. However my prescription isn't ready and I would need to collect it the next morning before 12, following day I rang the ward on numerous occasions my prescription wasn't ready 2pm finally able to collect it. Finally as an out patient received 3 appointments attend first one to be told in fact it should of been cancelled, attended second one today waited over an hour to be seen to be told my following appointment should of also been cancelled and I did not need to attend. Nothing but mistakes no one talks to each other! It's worrying they are in charge of people's life's :/

We're really sorry that you've had a such a bad experience at the QE, and in this instance your experience has clearly fallen short of the one we aim to provide to all of our patients. We'd love to be given the chance to look into these issues further and investigate what's gone wrong, but we would need some more information. If you would like us to investigate these issues for us, you can contact our PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) on 0800 953 0667 or email them on pals@ghnt.nhs.uk.
