As three members of our immediate family have worked or are working for the NHS I hate to complain as I'm a great believer in the NHS but feel I need to vent my frustration. Firstly I can't fault the nursing staff they have been lovely to my Mum. My Mum is currently a patient at Good Hope and where do I begin. This is the third time in 6 weeks she has been admitted with the same complaint. First admission she was not diagnosed properly and was nearly sent home after a couple of days on IV antibiotics with out oral antibiotics to complete the course - My sister had a stand up argument with the only nurse that has been difficult through this entire traumatic experience. Thanks to my sisters excellent knowledge of medicine she got the antibiotics thrown by said nurse at her and mum and sent on her way at 11pm. Second admission - After course of antibiotics finished within a week or so infection reared it's ugly head Mum was given the same IV antibiotics and was discharged a couple of days later with oral antibiotics again - Mum had been discharged too soon and doctor did not seen bothered that she had not pooped in over a week hence admission 3 only a week later with blockage, high temperature of 38.6 degrees C and in horrendous pain. After deciding yesterday that she needs emergency surgery over 24 hours later - 16/10/2014 05:00pm after keep ringing to see if she has gone to surgery we keep being told NO. While I understand more unstable patients would have to go first my Mum has now been told her INR levels are raised - Do you not think this is because her infection is a little out of control and she could bleed during surgery. If anyone at Good Hope are vetting these comments get you backsides in gear.
